Visual Insights: Dennys Photo Gallery: Awesome Quiet Landscapes by Adrians Art: From Denny: This week, while on one of my spectacular "visual vacations," I discovered this awesome photographer over at flickr. This photographer, Adrian Campfield, is based in the United Kingdom and has an incredible emotional connection to Nature's beauty. The early sunrise and sunset landscape photography is breathtaking, exuding a wonderful sense of peace and tranquility.

Art Photo-Rich Poem: People Trees

This was the poem I wrote last week for my Friday poem over at The Social Poets blog and I've been meaning to get it up over here. The folks over at StumbleUpon came in by the hordes for these wonderful photos, enjoy!

I've been thinking about what poem to write all week, and, as usual, started on another idea which just didn't gel well or in time. That's what's good about setting deadlines for yourself as you get that rush of adrenaline going to get out the words. :) Anyway, was researching some wonderful photos and kept finding awesome trees and one thing led to another as I knew my eternal mind was tapping my everyday mind on the shoulder and saying, "Hey! What about this?"

People Trees



Some of us ruggedly root ourselves mountain high to savor the views



Some of us enjoy beauty’s lingering mirrored perfection



Some of us feel forlorn in life’s landscape, until we see we are a duet



Some of us like to stand tall with a crowd, all in a perfect row



Some of us like to party with different people, the more the merrier



Some of us like to stand out in a crowd, fiercely plumped proud



Some of us see our own rippling beauty, reflected in the mirrors of others



Some of us rush to greet the exploding morning at first blush



Some of us sway and bend with life’s swirling storms yet remain



Some of us rush zig zagging through life and still look wildly beautiful



Some of us safely hold dear a child’s swing and his playful heart



Some of us are strong, sheltering lightly in the shadows



Some of us rise up from the water and tenaciously breathe through our knees*



Some of us suffer, enduring kindly a bit of indignity from time to time



Some of us absorb the strongest truth, filtering softly inner light



Some of us like to stroll unknown passageways and secret gardens



Some of us play hard to get, secretly happy to see company coming



Some of us like to wear jewelry, all decked out at least once a year



And some of us



dream big



just by looking up – lost in thought for hours.

*Cyprus trees have what are called "knees" - those bumps you see sticking out of the water near the roots which are underwater in the swamps. These knees are how the cyprus tree breathes the air!

What Can Adversity Do for Our Talents?

From Denny: This quote is especially poignant with the recent figures out on job loss in America. Adversity really can test us and make us or break us. Try watching some of NBC News segments called Making A Difference to see what other people are doing when they lose their jobs. Many people all across the globe as well as America are reassessing their passion in life and following it. They are also realistic enough to realize they may need a day job to pay the bills.

One example? A man who has the experience as a motivational speaker and loves to talk to teenagers goes around his area giving speeches for free after his company succumbed to the recession. What's his job now? He works at a far reduced pay as a janitor and is delighted to have the job yet still follows his passion.

Adversity has a way of strengthening us as we decide our priorities. The transition can be a bit difficult to adjust to yet over time we do adjust when we decide to put our focus upon it. In the end, we work our way through the rough patches (which can last months and even years) and find ourselves positioned well for sudden good opportunities staring us in the face at a later date.

Why? Because we worked through it - instead of sitting in a mud puddle whining about what we don't have any longer. We struck out on a fresh start and began building another dream! Most of us in America had pioneer ancestors who faced all kinds of adversity. Maybe today's America can take a lesson from them on tenacity.
