Poems From A Spiritual Heart: Poem: The Owl Speaks

Great Horned Owl

Poems From A Spiritual Heart: Poem: The Owl Speaks: From Denny:  Do you ever wake a couple of hours before dawn, deep in thought, only to hear the sounds of Nature speaking to you just outside your window?  Do you ever stop and concentrate upon the messages speaking all around you?  This poem is one of those times...

Music: Light of the Stable by Tara MacLean

From Denny:  This country song was recorded back in the 1990's yet retains a classic quality for the season.  To learn more about this Canadian singer, go here to understand her inspiration.

This is her most recent album released in 2009.  It contains some familiar folk songs along with her own:

Songs for Sunset

Poems From A Spiritual Heart: 20 Christmas Poems From Favorite Classic Poets

bright lights, big city

Poems From A Spiritual Heart: 20 Christmas Poems From Favorite Classic Poets: From Denny:  Revisit some old favorites and discover new poetry friends from the past century.  Here are 20 classic poems, some familiar like "The Night Before Christmas" and many more are so old and not taught in the current fast-paced culture that the past couple of generations may not have read them. These poems are so dense with imagery and archaic language it will exercise your brain and warm your heart at the same time! :)

Music: Amazing Grace By Hayley Westenra

English: Hayley Westenra during her concert at...

From Denny:  It's always refreshing to see what the newest generation does with a traditional standard, especially the Christian ones.  Hayley Westenra performs her wonderful rendition of a difficult song to sing, both emotionally and artistically.

(Check out the link to her name for an extensive biography over at Wikipedia.)

Music: What Child Is This? By John Michael Talbot

From Denny: John Michael Talbot is a monastic of the Brothers and Sisters Charity. I first heard of him years ago when he had taken a vow of silence for a year but was allowed to perform his music.

His voice has a soothing peaceful quality.  He has certainly studied his share of the world's religions and it is that knowledge and understanding that brings a richness to his music.

From his album, "The Birth Of Jesus" recorded with the National Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra of London, the Ambrosian Men's Choir, and the Junior Boys Choir of Desborough School.

(Check out the link to his name to learn more about him.)

Music: The First Noel By Jackie Evancho

A Jackie Evancho Christmas

From Denny:  The mature pure talent coming out of this little girl is astonishing.  A beautiful voice matched well with this beautiful traditional Christmas song.  It's as if you are hearing this old standard for the first time.

The second video is her first audition on America's Got Talent where she swept away the judges.  Jackie began singing at age eight when her parents took her to see the Phantom of The Opera.  It inspired her so much she began singing around the house.  At age ten she auditioned on America's Got Talent - and the rest is history.

Beautiful Illustrated Quotations: How Close Is God In Prayer?

The path to the sun!

Beautiful Illustrated Quotations: How Close Is God In Prayer?: From Denny: This quote is really about All That Is larger than ourselves. Just when we think one power is so huge we discover there is a much larger Power living right inside us, ready for the asking.

Beautiful Illustrated Quotations: How Does Solitude Clear Our Perception?

Beautiful Illustrated Quotations: How Does Solitude Clear Our Perception?: From Denny: Meditation and deep prayer is all about first quieting the monkeys of the mind - those daily "To Do" lists that crowd out deeper consideration of the thornier issues in life. We all know how imperative it is to go to a relaxing place in Nature to quiet our emotions from stress.

Beautiful Illustrated Quotations: 12 Funny Quotes About Prayer

Bird Song!

Beautiful Illustrated Quotations: 12 Funny Quotes About Prayer: From Denny: Prayer is a wonderful thing. It can bring us comfort, calm our fears and inspire us. It's also quite amusing to view it in terms of the human condition called "whining." There is also "bargaining." Once you grow past those two obvious pitfalls you discover "peaceful communion."

Music: Oh, Rejoice By Hillsong

reason for the season

From Denny:  While my husband was dashing into a convenience store to pick up a few items I was waiting in the car, seeking on the radio stations.  I landed on one talk show where a man was discussing the Christmas season shopping frenzy - and often violence - that breaks out when people fight for the best deals.

It's like the Christmas holiday season has been reduced down to this greedy fever pitch shopping season.  Big Business has clearly hijacked what should be a holy season.  The essayist continued saying how business changes their cashier greeting (Walmart) to try and sound like they are dispensing goodwill as if that will suddenly cement a good relationship with the customer, making up for the rest of the year.

Well, it should be a goodwill season.  During this time of year, he said, you often see strangers relax a little and make more of an effort.  But here's the real question, Did Jesus really come just to make our December's better or did He come to make our entire lives better?

Then the program featured this song and I smiled as my husband put the groceries in the car and we drove back home listening to the reason for the season.

Music: Perfect Love Marys Song

The Passion of the Christ
Image via Wikipedia

From Denny:  With the Thanksgiving holiday dominated by ads promoting shopping frenzies like on Black Friday I thought I'd post a contrast to remind us of "the reason for the season" - Jesus Christ. This is one powerful song and well edited video.  It contains clips from the Passion of the Christ movie.  Pull out a box of tissues because you are going to need it.

I'll be posting more Christmas music too so check back.

Dennys: News Politics Comedy Science Arts & Food: Posts Roundup at Dennys Blogs - 17 Nov 2011: From Denny: Check out blog posts on photography, arts, food, news, politics, a huge amount of humor - especially the political pundits, poetry, astronomy, quotes, music, spiritual and just about anything else that catches my eclectic interest. Can you tell that 140 characters just doesn't work for me? :)

The last posts roundup I did was back in June and we sure are overdue like a long pregnancy. Be sure to bookmark this post as you will enjoy endless hours of laughing while you absorb some good information.

Most of the blog posts are at my flagship blog that spun off into the other 20, The Social Poets, where the news crashes into humor. I even manage to write a few in-depth news posts, slicing and dicing the BS that passes for truth these days on the airwaves.

And to think I do all this in my spare time... Hope you enjoy!

Poems From A Spiritual Heart: Primordial Dragon

Poems From A Spiritual Heart: Primordial Dragon: From Denny: What is it with humanity's fascination with winged beings, be they angel or dragon? In an online writing group there was a challenge to write about dragons. What fun! Everyone wrote about dragons as evil vicious beasts as from the Western mythology.

Well, I spent most of my high school in Asia where the mythology is far different, Chinese mythology, that is. Come on; it seemed every time I turned around there was a street festival with the lion and dragon dances performed for good luck and prosperity!

Dennys Guest Bloggers: Travels to India: Experience of The Walking Meditation

Walking Meditations (I)

Dennys Guest Bloggers: Travels to India: Experience of The Walking Meditation: From Denny: Check out this post of a woman's travel back to her ancestors' homeland in India. She and her husband decided to practice the meditation known as Vipassana. The concept is that by focusing upon every action in the moment you end up clearing your mind of clutter and worries.

It also can be quite tiring as you learn to focus that deeply for long periods of time. Trust me; you do get better at it. It's like exercising a muscle; the more you exercise the stronger you get.

This writer, Chaya Parmessur, recounts her new experience with good humor as she travels on her spiritual path.

Dennys Art Sanctuary: Animation Art: Origins By Robert Showalter

Dennys Art Sanctuary: Animation Art: Origins By Robert Showalter:

From Denny: "Origins" is a delightful little animation project. It addresses the universal questions of "Where do we come from?" and "Where do I belong?"

This tiny and charming robot begins his search as a train passes by, marked with the exact same logo as he sports on his metal chest. That point of familiarity prompts him to begin his journey of discovery to search for his origins. What he finds and what he decides I will leave for you to discover. :)

Beautiful Illustrated Quotations: What Is Your Daily Meditation Focus, How Do You Know You Succeeded In The World?

Beautiful Illustrated Quotations: What Is Your Daily Meditation Focus, How Do You Know You Succeeded In The World?: From Denny:  You awaken in the early morning.  What is your first thought?  Is it to get the coffee going so you can turn your brain on, chasing away the sleep cobwebs?  Is your first thought to start that To Do List in your head even before the sun rises?

Too often we fill our lives with "musts" and an endless stream of physical tasks all nagging for our attention.  Jumping to those demands can easily get us out of balance, stressed out and excessively tired.

Have you ever considered changing what you think about when you first open your eyes in the morning?  Know that you will get around to attending to your daily routine.  Things have to get done and they will - but are you giving yourself the gift of cherishing that first thought in your day?

The Social Poets: 9-11 Stories Roundup: How Is America 10 Years Later?

Reuters photo/John Kehe illustration

The Social Poets: 9-11 Stories Roundup: How Is America 10 Years Later?:

From Denny: Every year when this date comes we all pause and remember those whose lives were taken quickly and horribly. We mourn for those left behind and pray for them to find their way in life.

For the youngest generation this event is a moment seared upon their memory, remembering where they were when America was struck by terrorism and the Twin Towers fell. Included here is an article of how to talk to children about the attack.

Not all associated with this terrible event is sadness, despair and sorrow. Whether survivors, or families and friends of the fallen, many have discovered the well of strength within themselves. Others have started charities and foundations to honor not the dead but the lives of the victims, promoting their life philosophies and initiatives. Stories of wonderful inspiring people have been shared in the news and memorials for the world to remember.

Beautiful Illustrated Quotations: 14 Awesome Friendship Quotes To Get You Thinking

Beautiful Illustrated Quotations: 14 Awesome Friendship Quotes To Get You Thinking: "From Denny: Lately, so much has been happening at a dizzying pace, especially the difficulty of the chaotic economy and harrowing jobs situation for millions of people worldwide.

When turbulent times are upon us it can sure cause us to think about the many wonderful friends we've enjoyed over the years. Many are in other countries now, some passed away young, others are in turmoil from divorce or other trauma. Many others have raised families, wondering what to do with the rest of their lives.

I've certainly had my fair share of interesting friends in my life. There were those to whom I was a better friend to them than they were to me. The reverse is true of those who were much older - and definitely wiser - who helped guide me when I needed it most - that I was not the friend I wished I had been for them at that point in time. But mentors know and accept that truth. They get their laugh when it's your turn to mentor and the process starts all over again. :)

These interesting heartfelt quotes are certainly an eclectic check list to assess if you are being the kind of friend you desire to be to others. And it might be eye-opening to assess if others are being the kind of friend you need right now too."

The Social Poets: World Debt Issues: We Are All In It Together

Big Bank Money Grab

The Social Poets: World Debt Issues: We Are All In It Together: "From Denny: As President Obama struggles with a contentious GOP over the debt ceiling issue, the rest of the world has its economic woes too.

Obama is trying to convince the Republicans to care about the elderly and the American middle class that have paid into Social Security all their working lives. They call it entitlements because we already paid for it in advance.  To the GOP mind, well, just why would a person want their money back in their old age?"

Computer Crashed This Week, Back Up Soon

From Denny: It had to happen sooner or later, right? The Dell Dimension was lingering like a slow tortoise crossing the road and stopping traffic. It just turned five years old.

After a few days of trying to fix it on my own I finally admitted defeat and took it into Office Depot. When I got the high quote I knew the Universe was advising me it was time to purchase a new one for practically the same price. It was just a couple of weeks ago I was in there, cruising the tech aisles, drooling over the terrabyte goodies while my husband grinned and shook his head.

So, yesterday, my husband looked at me and looked at the old guy Dell and said it was time to meet the new BFF guy on the block: HP. Happy Birthday to me a few weeks early. My husband turned to me today and said, "Someone's in a better mood - and so much happier. Welcome back to the plugged in human race." :)

Oh, and for the Fourth weekend Office Depot has lots of great sales on computers and other happy tech goodies.  If you are like me, finally having to part with an old friend, take a look around.  Who knows?  You just might meet the new love of your life!

Poems From A Spiritual Heart: It Isnt In Me

Poems From A Spiritual Heart: It Isnt In Me: "'Love is how we all win'

How to define someone by what they are not. Pivotal moment can prompt you to write

From Denny: I’ve always worked from the inside out. Yet in the West, and especially in America, our culture tends to work from the outside, ignoring the 'inside self' the majority of the time. And we wonder why America is a drug-plagued society with so much emotional and spiritual pain? There isn’t enough loving going around: yourself - as well as the stranger standing next to you!

You can love yourself without resorting to selfishness, stinginess or self-absorption. Just take good care of yourself as much as you would someone you value highly. Your world will improve dramatically when you adopt this philosophy."

The Social Poets: Fathers Day Posts: Quotes, Photos, Humor, Music. Poetry

happy fathers day

Happy Father's Day! photo by jwlphotography @ flickr, All Rights Reserved with embed code available

The Social Poets: Fathers Day Posts: Quotes, Photos, Humor, Music. Poetry: "From Denny:  Enjoy some funny quotes from fathers about being a father. Get inspired from some inspirational quotes about fathers and from fathers.

Enjoy two musicians - Keith Urban and Abel Ullon - and what they have to say about what it is like being a father and observing their own fathers as parents.

Most of all, enjoy some wonderful photography from a variety of amateurs and professionals, revealing fathers in their most intimate moments with their children. Taking a snooze, playing sand castle on the beach, riding on daddy's shoulder, hanging out with pregnant mom, daddy gazing into the eyes of  his newborn, daddy cookies baked just for him, playing 'kids in the bucket,' learning to play music, and getting kisses from his little girls on his special day to be honored - at least once a year! :)"

Poems From A Spiritual Heart: Those Funny Memories: "From Denny: It is odd how the mind works, never knowing what will rise to the surface sometimes, no matter how organized and methodical you fancy yourself to be. I've often wondered what triggers old memories, especially the ones that make us chuckle."

The Social Poets: Gabrielle Giffords: New Photos Since Shooting, Looks Great!

Gabby 18 months ago in January 2010

The Social Poets: Gabrielle Giffords: New Photos Since Shooting, Looks Great!: "From Denny: This week Gifford's staff put up on her facebook page more recent photos of her. These photos reveal a still vibrant woman with a healthy glow. What is so amazing is she just underwent yet another surgery. This time it was to replace part of her skull that had previously been removed months ago to allow the brain to swell from its injuries.

Good news! Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) is recovering at a rapid rate that astonishes and gladdens her doctors. To those of us - by the millions - who have prayed for her health and well being, this is proof positive how prayer works. Prayer is about giving energy to others when their energy is ebbing or weak. She looks wonderful!"

Dennys: News Politics Comedy Science Arts & Food: Posts Roundup at Dennys Blogs - 12 June 2011

Dennys: News Politics Comedy Science Arts & Food: Posts Roundup at Dennys Blogs - 12 June 2011: "From Denny: Check out what has been happening in the world of news, comedy, food, poetry, photography, art, music and more. In the past month a whirlwind of news occurred. World terrorist Osama bin Laden was hunted down and killed in a resort town in Pakistan where he had been hiding for the past six years. Supposedly, the Pakistanis were unaware of his presence there. Yeah? And I've got some swamp land in Louisiana to sell you too.

President Obama got a nice bump in approval ratings for about a week and then that fizzled as he resumed his usual do-nothing stance on the economy. Obama also continued with poisonous politics aimed at his own Democrats, throwing them all under the bus in favor of Big Business."
