The most precious possession that ever comes
To a man in this world
Is a woman's heart.
- Josiah G. Holland
And think not you can
Direct the course of love,
For love,
If it finds you worthy,
Directs your course.
- Gibran Kahlil Gibran
Love is a wonderful thing.
You never have to take it away
From one person to give it to another.
There's always more than enough to go around.
- Pamela de Roy
Love asks me no questions,
And gives me endless support...
- William Shakespeare
I have been astonished that men could die martyrs for their religion -
I have shudder'd at it.
I shudder no more.
I could be martyr'd for my religion
Love is my religion
And I could die for that.
I could die for you.
- John Keats
A kiss is a lovely trick designed by nature
To stop speech when words become superfluous.
- Ingrid Bergman
Love is like a rumor,
Everyone talks about it,
But no one truly knows.

It takes you by surprise at first,
But keeps you warm for a long time.

A fool in love makes no sense to me.
I only think you are a fool
If you do not love.

Once in awhile,
Right in the middle of an ordinary life,
Love gives us a fairy tale.

True poets don't write
Their thoughts with a pen...
They release the ink that flows
From within their heart.

Love doesn't make the world go round,
Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.
~ by Elizabeth Browning ~
Love me without fear
Trust me without questioning
Need me without demanding
Want me without restrictions
Accept me without change
Desire me without inhibitions
For a love so free....
Will never fly away.
- Dick Sutphen
Love is a burning desire,
That makes your heart light on fire,
Love is being with you,
Someone saying I love you too,
Love is your tender kiss,
Something you don't want to miss,
Love is you and me,
And that is all I see.
- Anonymous
Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself
But if your love and must needs have desires,
Let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook
That sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart
And give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer
For the beloved in your heart
And a song of praise upon your lips.
- Gibran Kahlil Gibran

What Do You Feel About Love?
*** View today: 16,974 and Thank You!
*** Do you have your own personal definition of Love?
From Denny: It seems throughout the centuries humanity has tried to define Love. We write about how we think about Love. We speak about how we feel about Love. What seems so certain for some is also elusive for others. Yet the fascination remains.
This quote is interesting because within two small short lines it encompasses the concept of eternity and infinity. Too often our concept of Love is taught to us by society and popular culture instead of by our own experiences, feelings and thoughts.
Sometimes, Love isn't about finding but rather about discovering. The discovering comes from when we make a commitment to build our relationship with that person. It's then the Love unfolds like a beautiful flower and reveals itself.

So How Do You Measure Your Spiritual Progress?
*** A few thoughts about our spiritual journey and how to gauge our progress, especially for empathic people.
From Denny: Once you grow past the baby pablum spiritual food most commonly available in society, you begin to reach out for something more substantial. Then it's on to establishing yourself firmly planted on the intermediate spiritual level. The intermediate level of spiritual growth involves a lot of stopping to measure where you are as well as who you are now as separated as from who you were - or even who you thought you were.
If you are an empathic type like me you know that last part of the statement is a real mind-bender. Society and various cultures expend a lot of energy into demanding people fit their molds even when they don't. Empathic people often get pushed and shoved into categories that are not good fits just because other people are afraid of the indefinable. People even try to bully us into remaining if they were successful enough at trapping us there for a while.
That's the thing about Spirit, and the coordinating empaths, for as a pairing we are indefinable because Spirit is everywhere and everything. An empath is someone who is keenly aware of Spirit and the ebb and flow of the spiritual realm. That can be a real challenge for other people not so inclined or sensitive to Spirit. Then their fears and rejections often become a challenge for empathic people.
Empathic people tend not to hold onto ego issues as strongly as others. That is not to say developing empaths do not require dealing with their egos in relation to effectively following Spirit. It's just part of the growth process for everyone. It's a challenge to learn to pair our egos with Spirit, to learn to flow effortlessly with the moment and truly fear nothing. It takes time and training.
No matter who you are, where you have been in life, or where you are headed, it's always a helpful idea to take a measure of how your ego is doing on the spiritual journey. The more you gain your Life balance the more your ego is getting comfortable with Spirit and the world and is choosing to get in sync. Your ego is choosing to trust Spirit for - and about - everything.
When your ego is calming down you will find that Life is no longer like some fire drill, where everything is a big drama and has to be addressed immediately and with great flair. While emergency situations will always exist, and certainly require immediate action, you will do so with far more calm and deliberation. Your ego will have learned to act rather than react. Acting with methodical, calm deliberation rather than reacting with fear, chaotic action and emotions bouncing off the walls in all directions.
The spiritual journey we are walking is to retrain our egos. Our egos were trained by our immediate family culture, our religion and our country's culture. What Spirit does over a long period of time is retrain us to once again get in synchronicity with Spirit. It is so we can gain our balance and better understand how to flow through this life. In the end, toward maturity, our egos finally merge back into harmony with Spirit. And that's when Life gets really interesting...
Quotes
Kabbalah quotes (Jewish mysticism)
* The worst manifestation of egoism is arrogance and conceit. - Talmud
* Faith cannot manifest itself in a person without being accompanied by fear, for egoism bows only to fear. - Talmud, Shabbat
* An individual need not despair when, as he studies and works on improving himself in an effort to attain spiritual elevation, he comes to see himself as being in an even worse condition than prior to studying Kabbalah. The true nature of egoism is revealed to a person whose level is higher than that of others, and for this reason a person becomes worse in his own eyes, even though he has actually become better. - Talmud, Megillah
* The most important aspect of a person is his aspirations, rather than his achievements, because it is egoism that requires achievements. - Talmud, Yavamot; Talmud, Sota
Funny ego quotes from Oscar Wilde:
One of the world's best social commentators, that involved the struggle of the ego in the world - was playwright Oscar Wilde. It certainly is an amusing way for the ego to realize to lighten up and get serious about the business of developing into a partnership with our Spirit:
* Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes. - Oscar Wilde
* Always forgive your enemies - nothing annoys them so much. - Oscar Wilde

How Psychic Are You? Fun Test and Spiritual Gifts
*** Have some fun taking a test to see how well you express spiritual abilities and learn about some of the Spirit gifts.
From Denny: While visiting one of my blogger friends, MysticDave @ SU, he had this fun little button to the side on one of his blogs, to take a psychic test. So, I thought, why not? Might be fun. Of course, it revealed I am far from perfect in the psychic arena. :)
I've always been of the belief that to develop we benefit by cultivating the Presence of Spirit, G-d, All That Is, Jesus Christ - give it the name which you best relate. Cultivating the Divine has marvelous effects like a sense of Peace for starters. It brings greater balance to our lives when life tests come our way. It is also realized that the more we cultivate the Divine within ourselves as well as higher than ourselves, we develop a greater sensitivity to and understanding of the spiritual realm. And that's what most people refer to as "being psychic."
- just click on this photo to take your own psychic test where it is at the bottom of the page.
Seriously though, when you set aside the ego need to be a super hero, what is to be considered is that the test asks questions people rarely think about all at once. They are the kind of questions most people ponder every now and then over the years unless you are a student of spirituality.
On the Scottish side of our family we call the talents the "Second Sight." Call it what you will, even the spiritual gifts of the Holy Spirit of which there are nine, it's interesting to consider. The Holy Spirit gifts involve "word of knowledge" which means a present tense awareness of a situation. Then there's the "word of wisdom" which directs one to knowledge of the future and how to handle complex longer term situations, common with those established in the offices of prophet and apostle. More world leaders could benefit from cultivating this gift.
The Spirit of God has been working with humanity since Time began, working toward developing spiritual awareness, balanced spiritual attitude and spiritual powers to use for common good. Every culture has their own mystical traditions that are similar to the following list of how Christianity understands spiritual gifts.
All Nine Gifts of The Holy Spirit
The Word of Knowledge - insight for solving a problem immediately, gaining access to universal knowledge you did not previously know.
The Word of Wisdom - about the future and strategy for solving complex situations.
The Gift of Prophecy - when Spirit gives you a direct message to be repeated word for word.
The Gift of Faith - a sudden infusion of faith and courage, knowing something will work out right if you act on it, beyond the normal hoping kind of faith.
The Gifts of Healings - manifesting a sudden ability to heal others, usually known as the tradition of "laying on of hands." Common in many religions and mystical traditions throughout history. Spirit will often create a particular specialty for a person to give out healings. Don't even get me started on the gift of compassion as it is powerful, sometimes working in a pairing with the healing gift for difficult illnesses like those near death or suffering from severe mental imbalances.
The Working of Miracles - A phenomena that transcends natural laws. A miracle is often where the normal operation of physical law as we know it is suspended to create a miracle.
The Discerning of Spirits - This can be insight into understanding who or what is operating behind the scenes as a manipulator to harm or help others. It can be insight into knowing about evil spirits, human spirits, angelic spirit or even Holy Spirit. Think of it as an intense awareness of all things spiritual and the ability to rightfully divide who is who and what is what accurately. It's a psychic ability to pierce past the outward physical manifestation of what most people only see and divine intent.
Different Kinds of Tongues (ability to speak spontaneously different languages than are native to you) - this occurs when a person is in deep distress, not knowing where to turn or how to pray. Your spirit will take over and cause you to pray out loud in a foreign language, of this earth or a heavenly one, to help you pray your intent accurately and with the power to accomplish the desired results.
The Interpretation of Tongues (Languages) - where there is an immediate awareness of what transpired and you known the translation of your own prayer or someone else's you heard praying in another language.
Of course, the whole purpose of these gifts is to introduce people to the power within them so they realize, and gain the perspective, of how much we are all spiritual beings living in a physical world.
In the end, while learning to flow with Spirit in such gifts, we learn the most valuable gift of all: how to Love with the power to transform lives, including our own!

Kabbalah Quotes: How to Know You Are On The Right Path For You
*** Learn some universal spiritual knowledge from an ancient Jewish mysticism.
From Denny: Studying Kabbalah has gained in popularity since Hollywood actors, and musicians like Madonna, promoted it. Like anything that becomes popular there are also the opportunists who try to make money off said popularity. Ignore the fools and focus upon the core teachings to look at universal truth is what I always do. It's keeps us free of the emotional hype that pull you off balance spiritually if you allow it into your inner space.
Speaking of inner space, it seems today's religious thought does not contemplate about how the ego and the spirit share that same space. Sometimes, the ego can be like an unruly two-year-old on the loose, trashing the house and crowding the spirit into a too small dark corner. Today's religions either teach excessive harshness about the human ego and demand strict adherence to mind-numbing rules or turn loose the ego without learning any real personal discipline. Somewhere in the middle of moderation is the truth and a healthy spiritual practice.
Take a look at what ancient Jewish mystics have to say about the spiritual journey:
Quotes
* The most important aspect of the process of self-improvement is the cultivation of one’s sense of humility before the Creator. This, however, should not be an artificial undertaking, but a goal of one’s efforts. If, as a result of working on the self, an individual gradually starts to develop this quality, then it means that he is proceeding in the right direction. - (Talmud, Avodah Zarah)
* A person’s highest spiritual potential is to reach the level of maaseh merkavah ("the act of rule"). He is able to correct himself to such an extent that Divine Providence over the world can be executed through that person. - (Talmud, Suka)

Madonna Offends Traditional Jewish Kabbalists in Israel
*** Check out Madonna creating a stir with religious in Israel.
Views today: 59,068 and Thank You!
Madonna performs in Madrid last year. (Susana Vera/Reuters)
From Denny: What's all the commotion of the Jewish Kabbalists in Israel complaining bitterly about Madonna? Ten years ago Madonna started studying Kabbalah. Since then her fame helped catapult an ancient philosophy of Jewish mysticism into the limelight, making it popular. It also revitalized an Israeli town by the name of Safed, a small mountaintop town that serves as the spiritual center for the Kabbalah mysticism movement.
Strict Hasidic and Kabbalist, Yaacov Kaszemacher, artist and photographer, has strong opinions as to the validity of Madonna as a true Kabbalist. "It is not respectful to what is really Kabbalah," he said, commenting upon Madonna’s interest into the mystical side of Judaism: Kabbalah.
There are those conservative traditionalists that sniff their noses and complain that Madonna is not a true Kabbalalist. Basically, these are the self-styled guardians you get in any religious mystical sect where the letter of the law takes dominance over the spirit of the law mentality.
Madonna is known as The Material Girl, a far cry from the image of a monkish ascetic languishing in the desert to fast in order to tame his fleshliness so he can hear God better. Madonna has always been all about the excess of the fleshly pursuits in life. So, it's understandable why they would be put off by her promoting their Jewish mysticism. In their minds, they just don't see her as their spokesperson or God's. Well, stranger things have happened. Just ask God and take a peek into the Old Testament Bible.
Traditionalists in this town of Safed have not taken kindly to Madonna making Kabbalah fashionable. The reason for all the debate in this town, besides being the nerve center for Kabbalists, is that Madonna visited last September. Since then the town has transformed dramatically. Residents actively debate the changes. They also discuss Madonna's position of the most high profile celebrity Kabbalist.
The coordinator of Safed's Visitor Center, Laurie Rappeport, says that "Hollywood and Madonna have so strongly adopted Kabbalah mysticism they made it popular, practically turning it into their own religion. Madonna had a lot to do with the promotion."
Because of this flashy promotion and shallow popularity that local Kabbalists like Kaszemacher are unhappy. Of course, everyone who studies Kabbalah knows that Kabbalah is not a religion or an offshoot of Judaism. As Kaszemacher says, "it represents the deepest levels of understanding of Jewish religious texts, drawing out subtext and hidden meaning to achieve a deeper understanding of the Jewish faith."
To traditional study Kabbalists they are of the opinion a person should only study Kabbalah after they have spent decades studying the Torah and other top scholarly works. In their traditions, they do not believe a person is ready to delve into the deep mystical world of Kabbalah's ancient wisdom. You must prepare your mind not just with knowledge but with familiarity of spiritual principles and wisdom.
One angry resident Kabbalist, Moshe Yiar, a Kabbalah artist that plants verses of the Torah into his watercolor works, says Madonna "doesn’t know anything about Kabbalah. There are even big rabbis that don’t understand Kabbalah."
Yet it's the new found popularity in the West of ancient Jewish mysticism, the Kabbalah, that is the very reason for the renewal of this small town of Safed and its art scene. "I don’t think these artists would have developed here if the popularity weren’t there," Rappeport said.
How did this art scene develop in this town for such a tradition? Israel was founded in 1948. Israeli artists flocked here because the real estate was cheaper in the then empty Arab quarter. The local culture ended up developing around the art scene during the 1950's and the 1960's. Safed became the cool Bohemian capital of Israel at the time.
by the late 1970's the town of Safed went into creative decline as the older artists began to retire and die off. What really turned the place into a virtual ghost town was the government complicated matters for new people to purchase land and property there. Even as recent as ten years ago there were very few art galleries present. Now, with Madonna's and Hollywood's promotion, the Bohemian renewal has blossomed again with that hippie vibe. All this juxtaposed against the very ultra conservative backbone of the local traditionalists it is a thriving tourist destination.
Talk about cultural contrast: Yemenite Jews peddle organic pizza down the street from an old couple who peddle traditional Jewish souvenirs. Young hip Israeli version of hippies pass on the street the traditional uptight buttoned down Hasidic Jews. The streets are narrow and winding limestone alleys, crowded with cultural contradictions. The town of Safed is considered to be one of Israel's holiest cities.
Because of Maddona's interest in this town and Kabbalah, tourists and Kabbalah enthusiasts have come to visit from far and wide. As a result, new art galleries have opened outside the traditional artist quarter, closer to the tourists, and ended up boosting the economy.
Kabbalist art tends to be wide in scope. Artists often employ basic geometric constructions in order to convey mystical thoughts. In Hebrew, each letter of the alphabet is assigned a numerical value. The artists play with shapes conceptually in order to draw out the numbers - which actually equal letters - to spell words that carry mystical meaning.
Kabbalist artists use as their focal point the concept of finding balance in Life. To convey that sense of balance they often use divided shapes and contrast colors that are on opposite ends of the color wheel like black and white or red and green.
Not everyone believes Madonna has cheapened their mysticism of Kabbalah. An American painter from Michigan, Avraham Loewenthal, moved to Israel 15 years ago. He is now a prominent Kabbalist painter. He says most artists stress the complexity of Kabbalah while he reduces it down to the several simple themes at its core teachings.
When asked what his opinion was of Madonna and how her interest in his town had changed the atmosphere, he responded better than the traditionalists. This man truly understands the core teaching of the Kabbalah. "It’s so hard for a person to find out what their spiritual work in this world is. Within the Kabbalah, we only look inside ourselves because we can’t know what someone else’s spiritual work in this world is." And that is the colossal dividing difference of the letter of the law from the spirit of the law.

How Do You Assess Change in Yourself?
*** A simple truth so easy to do for ourselves.
From Denny: When you are a serious student of spirituality - it is easy to forget that in all the striving to develop - it's often a great idea to stop long enough to check out your progress. This quote made me laugh in its simple truth!
In the early stages when you are applying yourself to personal growth it is not so easy to flow with the Spirit so you miss the obvious sometimes. When you finally do get in tune with Spirit you are taken to inner places naturally and with ease.
The most profound way to assess your growth is to return to a place in your past, like a school or hometown that has not changed. It will quickly become clear how much you have grown and changed since you left. You will even be amused at how much your thoughts have grown in awareness.
There is no wistful sadness of what you left behind but rather a joyful celebration of what you learned to embrace that benefits the good of all.
Quote
* There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered. - Michael Fry and T. Lewis, "Over the Hedge"

How Do We Prepare Ourselves For Change?
*** Thoughts on how to get started on the road to embracing Change fearlessly.
From Denny: The subject of change has both intrigued and frightened humanity from the very beginning of Time. We create order in our societies by setting up boundaries, laws and rules of behavior. Eventually, those laws - and societal expectations - become rigid, pushing back against necessary healthy change.
Change is the vehicle to take us to our path of growth, personally and societally. When change is denied too long the transformation process can be violent. We experienced that as a country here in America when we finally decided to grow past the societal ill of slavery and it created a Civil War of many long years.
The same is true of personal growth in the area of change. If we deny small changes over a long period of time, then we are overdue, and it can be traumatic when change flips us over and spanks us for being so late to the party.
Every day for the next week, take about 10 minutes to consider current change in your life. Perhaps consider changes you would like to make. Start small with something as benign as cleaning out a cluttered kitchen or bathroom drawer.
What you will find with a small project like this is how it will trigger memories and previous thoughts you did not have the time previously to spend contemplating. It's like you pull up this short internal "To Do" List. It gives your mind time free to roam, think deeply and ultimately rest.
If you spend a few minutes like this contemplation every day - or a few times a week - you will benefit. How will you benefit? You will become more emotionally and mentally flexible. It's that flexibility that helps us adapt quickly when change comes our way.
This deep thinking helps build you a strong spiritual foundation as you are profoundly connected with your spiritual self at this time. It's your special place of acceptance and warm hospitality any time of the day or night upon which you can draw when needed as if it were a deep well: your spirit.
Quote
* It's not that some people have willpower and some don't. It's that some people are ready to change and others are not. - Heraclitus (540 BC - 480 BC), from Diogenes Laertius, Lives of Eminent Philosophers

How Does Change Crash Into Our Lives to Build Anew?
*** Why do the confident among us find it easy to embrace change?
From Denny: Have you ever thought about the concept of change as just a neutral subject? Hard to do for us human types, isn't it? :)
The spiritual energy of change is much like a car. It is neither good nor bad but rather it is who is at the driving wheel that determines our destination. How we drive our "vehicle of change" is determined solely by our attitude and world outlook.
That's why it's important to purposefully focus upon positive events and remembrances in our personal experiences. The negative will easily be remembered. The problem of those negative experiences is that it speaks to holding onto and recycling negative dark energy for too long. That practice causes terrible imbalance in us.
Holding and caressing positive beautiful energy only seeks to energize us with more Life and Hope. So, when change comes into our lives - and it surely will - it is easier to be flexible and adapt purposefully in a fulfilling way that brings us happiness.
Quote
* Change has a considerable psychological impact on the human mind. To the fearful it is threatening because it means that things may get worse. To the hopeful it is encouraging because things may get better. To the confident it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make things better. - James Gordon, M.D.

63 Quotes About Freedom and Liberty: Happy Birthday, America!
*** What do Liberty and Freedom mean to you?
Fire in the sky by Randy Son Of Robert @ flickr
From Denny: The struggle for freedom in humanity is an ancient tale. Slavery is recorded in the Bible. Slavery of mind and heart is central to the story of the Jewish Prophet Moses bringing the people up out of Egypt, freeing them from their captors of 400 years.
The people had been enslaved for so many generations they did not understand the concept of freedom nor the responsibilities that hitch a ride with it. Even Apostle Paul, so many centuries later as a man of wealthy family who was slated to become the High Priest of Jerusalem yet chose to follow Jesus Christ, discusses living "the law of liberty" as a Christian in the New Testament.
True spiritual development is the way of liberty yet a liberty lived with a social conscience and compassion toward the lives of others. Always, a mature spiritual person knows it is their duty and mission in life to assist others in their soul journey while here on Earth.
During this Fourth of July celebration of America's birthday of when we declared ourselves a sovereign nation, take time to ponder your life of liberty. Are you living your liberty to its fullest? Have you set your spirit free?
Quotes

* He that would make his own liberty secure, must guard even his enemy from opposition; for if he violates this duty he establishes a precedent that will reach himself. - Thomas Paine
* History does not teach fatalism. There are moments when the will of a handful of free men breaks through determinism and opens up new roads. - Charles de Gaulle
* Freedom has its life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed - else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots, it will wither and die. - President Dwight D. Eisenhower

* The patriot's blood is the seed of Freedom's tree. - Thomas Campbell
* Nothing is more difficult, and therefore more precious, than to be able to decide. - Napoleon Bonaparte (yet he crowned himself emperor)
* Here is my advice as we begin the century that will lead to 2081. First, guard the freedom of ideas at all costs. Be alert that dictators have always played on the natural human tendency to blame others and to oversimplify. And don't regard yourself as a guardian of freedom unless you respect and preserve the rights of people you disagree with to free, public, unhampered expression. - Gerard K. O'Neill, 2081
* Many politicians are in the habit of laying it down as a self-evident proposition that no people ought to be free till they are fit to use their freedom. The maxim is worthy of the fool in the old story who resolved not to go into the water till he had learned to swim. - Thomas Macaulay

Ouch Outrageous Obnoxious And Odd
